The Homemakers Call

Each morning brings new mercies and new messes.

So, I pull up my sleeves and step forward, ready to heed the call, blessed to image my God.

Each day I bring order to chaos when I straighten books or wipe counters and pick toys up from the floor, and I am reminded of my good God. I gather ingredients, busy my hands and marry them into a colorful and fragrant meal to assuage hunger and nourish my family, and I am reminded of my good God.

Setting an example for the eyes of my children in how I walk, speak and serve, and I am reminded of my good God.

I wash and fold the laundry so my household will be dressed and ready for what lies ahead, and I am reminded of my good God.

No, this work won’t stay done because my hands are finite and this world is feeble-

Until He comes again.

We are marching home, through dust and decay that crash like ocean waves, lapping, one after the other-

Until He comes again.

Each morning with new mercies and new messes- I’m invited to image part of my Creator.

He has called and so equips me as I bring order to chaos, disciple souls, provide peace and comfort, offer nourishment and pleasure,

and I am reminded of my good God.

My prayer for you, sweet homemaker is that you would find joy in your ministry and pleasure in the work that has been given to you by our good God. I pray that our homemaking would not be relegated to a task that needs crossing off or a nuisance that stifles, but we would see the worthy challenge and beauty in the work that it is, every new morning. May we work with vigor and joy as until the Lord, seeking His glory and magnifying His name. -Abbey
